ISPRM 2022

The Toxnet group delivered a symposium on 4 July 2022 at the ISPRM congress called, ‘Peer Exchange on Challenges in Spasticity Management’.

The meeting was led by Toxnet co-chairs, Gerard Francisco and Thierry Deltombe and focused on the recently-published, ‘Comprehensive Curriculum on Spasticity Assessment and management’ that had been developed by the Toxnet group. A previous needs assessment survey of 55 international spasticity experts and trainers had assessed the adequacy of physician training in their local residency programs across 25 spasticity topics and identified key areas of unmet educational requirements. The Toxnet Curriculum was developed to address those topics relating to spasticity management: assessment; goal-setting; non-surgical and surgical management approaches; trouble-shooting.

Nathalie Draulans provided an overview of the Curriculum content and then other Toxnet members, Monica Verduzco-Gutierrez, Rajiv Reebye and Jörg Wissel demonstrated the practical use of the Curriculum, including goal-setting and trouble-shooting, through discussion of a clinical case addressing pain with shoulder spasticity.

The session was very well attended, with a lot of interest from the audience and commendations for the great achievement.
